Krill - the Superstar

NKO Krill oil is derived from the tiny but powerful crustaceans called Antarctic krill. Krill is a plentiful source and part of the largest biomass on earth. It is harvested wild in the pure and pristine waters in Antarctica.

Krill is naturally rich in beneficial nutrients such as phospholipid omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, choline and astaxanthin, which makes it a unique source of nutrients in the dietary supplement space.

THE BIG DIFFERENCE

What sets krill oil apart in the supplement market?

SUPERIOR

Omega-3

Antarctic krill is rich in  omega-3  bound phospholipids EPA and DHA with proven health benefits for human health.

Phospholipid

What really sets krill oil apart is that the nutrients are delivered in the form of phospholipids, the delivery system that ensures that these vital nutrients are efficiently transported around the body.

Choline

Choline is an essential nutrient for many body functions such as nerve signaling, liver and muscle function.

POWERFUL

Astaxanthin

The antioxidant astaxanthin not only gives color its vibrant red color, but also protects it from oxidation, eliminating the need to add artificial preservatives.

Superior omega-3 fatty acids

Superior source of omega-3  EPA & DHA

With more than 9,000 human studies behind them, the omega-3 fatty acids like the ones found in krill oil are already among the most-researched nutritional compounds in the world.  Even with all these studies researchers say we’re only beginning to understand their full role in human health.

Omega-3s, like eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), give cell membranes their structure, enabling them to hold in fluid and nutrients and usher out waste. They also serve as roaming chemical messengers, dampening down inflammation and facilitating transmission between nerve signals. Harvard research shows that more than 80,000 premature deaths could be prevented annually if people consumed more omega-3s. Still, 91%  of Americans are deficient.

Superior omega-3 fatty acids

The world is short on omega-3 fatty acids

The Omega-3 Index is a measurement of the amount of omega-3 fatty acids that are contained within our blood cell membranes. The more omega-3 we take into our body, the higher the Omega-3 Index.  Several research has shown that an Omega-3 Index of 8% is optimal for maintaining good health.

An estimated 97% of the western population have insufficient levels of omega-3s and this can be a factor in the development of certain health issues like cardiovascular disease (CVD). In some countries the lack of omega-3 is severe –with an omega-3 index (level) of less than 4%. Some places with low Omega-3 index levels, such as the US, Western Europe and India correspondingly have high rate of lifestyle diseases such as CVD.

Several clinical trials have shown that supplementing with NKO krill oil will increase your omega-3 index level within 30 days.

The molecule of life

The Phospholipid advantage

What sets krill oil apart is that it comes in the “phospholipid form,” — a water-soluble backbone linked to two strings of fatty acids on one side and a package of other health promoting compounds, including choline, on the other.

Because phospholipids mix easily in both fat and water, they are digested more easily than other forms (triglycerides) which don’t mix in water. Unlike triglycerides, which the body rushes to store in fatty tissue, after absorption, phospholipids are directly used as building blocks for cell membranes where they facilitate fatty acid transport throughout the body as well as through the blood-brain barrier to the brain.

In fact, every cell membrane in the human body is made of phospholipids.  It is also very important to note that the omega-3 on the phospholipids will help shift the fatty acid ratio of the cell membrane to a healthier omega-3 predominance versus omega-6 or shorter chain and saturated fat.

The essential nutrient

A great source of choline

Choline is an essential vitamin-like nutrient that is crucial for normal cellular function. Choline is a key building block for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which helps support memory and communication between brain cells and supports the activation of muscle function.

Because choline is typically found in beef, liver, and chicken; those who don’t consume a lot of meat often lack it. According to the American College of Nutrition, 9 out of 10 Americans are not getting the recommended amount of choline from their diet.

Potent antioxidant

Powerful astaxanthin

Astaxanthin is a highly potent antioxidant and accounts for krill oil’s bright red color. It assists in keeping the omega-3 fatty acids in krill oil stable thus serving as a natural preservative in krill oil, keeping it naturally fresher, longer.

In cells, it provides protection against free radical attack and as a result, astaxanthin has been linked to various health benefits.

unique advantages

Better consumer experience

logo
Small capsules

Easy to swallow

Phospholipids make krill oil’s omega-3s more bio-efficient and stable. This allows for smaller capsules that are easier to swallow.

logo
No burps

No fishy aftertaste

Because omega-3s in the phospholipid form are water soluble, they don’t pool on top of the stomach, prompting reflux and fishy aftertaste, like many fish oil supplements do.

logo
incorporation

Bio-efficient

Phospholipid bound omega-3 and choline are more efficiently incorporated into the body’s cells and vital organs.
